Cassio Turra
University of Pennsylvania

Cassio M. Turra is completing his PhD in the Demography Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Under the supervision of Professor Samuel Preston, he is examining old age mortality patterns for Hispanics in the U.S. based on Medicare-NUMIDENT records. This research, supported by a National Institute of Aging grant, focuses on ethnic differences in mortality at older ages. Turra received the B.A. in economics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG; Brazil), and the Masters in demography in 2000 from Cedeplar (Brazil). At Cedeplar, he examined the effects of demographic changes on various inter-age reallocation systems in Brazil. Previously Turra worked as an analyst for FleetBoston Bank and for Procter & Gamble. He holds both Brazilian and Italian citizenships.
