Frank Heiland
Associate Professor of Economics

Frank Heiland obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in August 2002. His research includes contributions to the analysis of the retirement incentives provided by the Social Security Earnings Test and the Actuarial Reduction Factors, the study of the effects of the early retirement rules on labor force exit and Social Security Old Age benefit claiming behavior, the development of life-cycle models of optimal retirement, the study of the effect of maternal labor supply, fertility, and parental relationship status and transitions on child attainment, and the analysis of the determinants of obesity among Americans. In his current research on retirement, he investigates the effect of individuals’ expectations regarding the level of future Social Security benefits on the timing of Social Security benefit initiation and work behavior. Dr. Heiland has received research support from the National Institutes of Health.
